5 MINUTES WITH: WAVED 360

Welcome to another segment of 'five minutes (or more) with' some really cool creatives. This month we are collaborating with the founder of the luxury handmade durag brand, Waved 360. Whether you wear durags for waves, fashion, protection or if your trim is long overdue, Waved.360 is the brand you should go to! Without further ado let's dive straight into the interview...

What inspired you to start a durag line?

I was mainly inspired by friends who wore Durags to start my own line. I was tired of seeing theirs get holes in them. So I decided I would start my own line of durags which is a little bit more upscale with better quality fabric.

What Waved.360 project are you most proud of?

TrapXArt London was one of my favourite projects. It was a pop-up event with many other artists and fashion designers and it was a great night for us to network and see my durags on a runway with models

What makes Waved.360 unique?

What makes my brand unique is the customized and embroidery options. I don’t just sell plain durags. My durag material is also handpicked and handmade. I am also trying to break in the idea that durags can be very classy and sophisticated and this is reflected in my visuals.

What advice would you give to other creatives who may be experiencing a creative block? Or who worry about taking a break from the industry?

My advice to anyone wanting a break from the creative industry would be: Forgive yourself for wanting a break, when you are ready to return it will happen. If you thrive off being creative, you will naturally become pulled back in when it is your time. The pandemic has taken a toll on small businesses like myself, and so I decided to take a break and it has allowed me to recalibrate and come back stronger.

What is next for Waved.360?

What is next for waved.360 is a rebranding. Like I mentioned before I had a break during the pandemic but I am back! I want to try to make the embroidered durags more affordable and tailored to any gender. Expect a lot more visuals and new designs in the months to come.
