A LETTER TO MY HOMEBODIES

Dear Homebody,

The past year has been crazy, and now the UK is slowly relaxing the lockdown rules. Everyone is talking about the ‘best summer yet’, ‘the one for the hall of fame, ‘hot girl summer’ and the list goes on. It is so easy to feel the pressure to go out and make the most of being outside. That’s why I am writing this letter to you, just to say that it’s okay if you still want to stay indoors.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to stay at home. It does not mean you are boring, antisocial or unadventurous. It just means that you like the comforts of your home. As cringey as it is, home is where the heart is, it is your sanctuary, your safe place, an environment where you thrive! If this is what being at home means to you, why would you want to go anywhere else?

You’re a homebody and homebodies like being at home – period(t).

As a certified homebody, I am always an advocate for staying indoors, but what I have come to learn is that having a balance is everything. Sometimes too much of something, that isn’t necessarily deemed bad, can turn into something that is not good for you. What I am trying to say is, don’t feel the pressure to go out, just because outside is open, go out because you genuinely want to.

Surround yourself with people who make you feel safe.

From tomorrow (May 17), we will be able to mix indoors for the first time in months. So, use this opportunity to spend time with the people you care about in your safe space, your home - in a way that makes you feel comfortable. For some homebodies, it is not necessarily about being in your actual home, but places that have that warmth, like your home. This could be booking an Airbnb or a hotel. So maybe book an Airbnb with a few friends, and enjoy spending time with them in a place that feels like home.

If there is anything I want you to take away from this letter, is that you should do what makes you feel comfortable. Continue to thrive as a homebody, but also be open to exploring the world in a way that makes you feel safe.

Sincerely,

A fellow homebody.
